Opening Hours on Zuma Beach

The beach is open from sun rise to sun set every day.  There are lifeguards on duty during daylight hours but the other facilities are closed at midnight or earlier.

The parking lot is open from 6am until mid evening and closes at 10pm, or sunrise-to-sunset.  It depends uppon the season.

🐕 Pet Policy & Beach Rules

Dogs are not permitted on Zuma Beach. LA County beach rules prohibit animals on the beach itself and in the beach parking lots, and Zuma is no exception. The only exception is a genuine service animal as required by the ADA.

Dog-friendly alternatives: leashed dogs are welcome at the Leo Carrillo State Beach dog area about 15 minutes north. At Malibu Creek State Park, dogs are limited to the campground, the day-use picnic areas, the parking lots and the paved park roads — the trails are closed to them. 🌤️ Seasonal Hours & Weather Guide

Summer Hours (May-September): Beach facilities typically operate with extended hours during peak season. Parking lots remain open until 10pm to accommodate sunset visitors. Lifeguards are on duty daily during daylight hours.

Winter Hours (October-April): Shorter daylight hours mean earlier facility closures, typically sunset-based rather than fixed times. Weather can be unpredictable with occasional rain, so check conditions before visiting.

Best Weather Months: August through October offer the warmest ocean temperatures and most reliable sunshine. March through May provide excellent weather with fewer crowds - perfect for peaceful beach days.

Nearby Attractions

While most people visit the beach just for a day of sand, sun, surf and fun, there are actually many interesting attractions all within easy reach of the beach. So if you want to combine some activities in a day in the area, or simply want to allow some members of your group to do different things, then consider some of these nearby attractions.

Point Dume - At the end of the beach, visible as you look all the way to the left while facing the sea, Point Dume is a rocky promontory that juts out into the Pacific Ocean. The point, a long bluff, forms the northern end of the Santa Monica Bay. It is most interesting as a rock climbing location as the rocking mound forms a natural climbing wall with very moderate single pitch rock climbing routes that are perfect for the beginner or training, or simply for those simply wishing to try out natural rock climbing.
